Why I Made VOYEUR2. The Kink photography exhibition at Matt ford studio
words matt fordI keep returning to the kink community because I'm drawn to raw, uninhibited personalities. People who push outside what society expects. I find that empowering.
Good kink or erotic art pushes at what art is supposed to be. Some write it off as smut, but with the right intent, it becomes something deeply beautiful and personal.
That's why I put together VOYEUR2. It expands on my original 2022 show, evolving from a solo project into a group exhibition featuring prominent kink photographers from across Europe. This time hosting it at my own gallery, the first of many exhibitions at thew space to come.
I see kink imagery everywhere in fashion and mainstream culture now. But most of it feels diluted. This exhibition looks past the surface to show the depth and full spectrum of what kink actually is.
The photographers I brought together come from different genders, sexualities and desires. Miss Gold, Tom Selmon, The Berlin Chameleon, Ottilie Landmark, Joaquin Bielsa, Matt Skully and myself. Whether you're into dirty sports socks or nailing your sub's balls to a table, these artists turn desire into something fascinating, occasionally brutal, but always deeply human.
Is kink photography about surreal latex costumes and constructed fantasy portraits? Or is it about being deeply involved in a scene and capturing genuine heady intimacy? Or simply being the voyeur with a camera, watching from the fringes?
VOYEUR2 is my answer.
Visitors can buy framed works, zines, books and limited-edition prints from £10 to £500+. We're also launching VOYEUR2: A Zine as both an exhibition catalogue and a collectable erotic art book.
Profits from the catalogue will be donated to the World AIDS Foundation, in response to the US government ending recognition of World AIDS Day and ongoing anti-LGBTQ+ hostility.
A kink photograph stands out when it reframes something we think we already understand. We've all seen the fully kitted-up gimp. But the right image makes you look again.
VOYEUR2 runs December 12-14 at MF Studio London. Come through.
